A catalyst for peace and reconciliation in Sri Lanka.

Partnering For Peace

Our journey of “partnering for peace” here in Toronto is far from complete. In fact, the process of gathering the expatiate community has confirmed the challenges and realities that are likely typical in other nations and may exist even back in Sri Lanka. However, our journey has met with great response from those who have been involved. Our longing is to see many more come together and explore the resources available through faith in our Lord Jesus Christ for peace and reconciliation. Our journey has confirmed the essential place of forgiveness as the entry point in peace and reconciliation.

There is a large expatriate community of Sri Lankans who directly or indirectly exert influence over the socio-political and socio-economic future of the nation of Sri Lanka. These expatriates tend to be divided on ethnic lines, mirroring the way in which the country itself has been divided in its 30 year armed conflict, which ended in 2010. Further, not all of them are agreed in their vision of how Sri Lanka should develop as a country. We believe that a Christian’s identity should not be based on ethnicity or culture but on his or her position in Christ. We are His “called-out” people who are challenged to embrace a new and higher culture that recognizes our oneness in Christ; one which is based on biblical principles of love and forgiveness.

As Christian expatriates demonstrate this Kingdom culture, we also have a duty to speak into and influence the future of Sri Lanka in a way that brings about lasting peace, reconciliation and transformation.
